OHS & Traffic Control Cards
Q. I have an OHS Induction For Construction Work Green Card, is it still valid?
A. No. The green card was superseded by the White Card. The cut-off date for automatic transfer has now expired and you will need to do the course again if you wish to hold a valid OHS Induction for Construction Work White Card.
Q. I completed a course in QLD which was delivered by a NSW company and was issued with a Statement of Attainment for 'Work Safely in the Construction Industry'. The training organisation told me this is nationally recognised as now having completed the Construction Induction and I am legal in NSW. Is this correct?
A. Not quite. If you do not hold a Construction Induction card (White Card) issued by a State or Territory regulatory authority, eg. WorkCover NSW, Worksafe Victoria etc, then you can not work on a construction site anywhere in Australia. Click here for more information, or ring WorkCover NSW on 13 10 50
Q. Does an OHS Induction For Construction Work Certificate (White Card) have an expiry date?
A. No. However, under OHS regulations if you have not carried out construction work in the previous two years, an employer is required to ensure that general induction training is provided. This essentially means that you will be required to complete a White Card course again. The OHS Regulator will then issue a new card.
Q. I am a truck driver and have a transport OHS Blue Card. Is this equivalent to the White Card?
A. No. The transport Blue Card is not issued by or recognised by the State and Territory OHS Regulators. It was an industry card only and due to little or no demand has virtually diasappeared.
NOTE: Truck/delivery drivers delivering to a construction site must check with site management to determine what the site procedures are for entering the site to unload.
Q. Some websites are offering White Card on-line. Can I obtain a NSW White Card on line, instead of attending a course?
A. No. The National OHS laws require you to attend face-to-face training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation's WorkCover NSW approved trainer.
NOTE: Because of the issues relating to organisations based in QLD and WA offering on-line courses, WorkCover NSW has directed that only NSW residents (with a current NSW residential address) can complete a White Card course in NSW. It should be noted that if you live outside QLD or WA and complete an on-line course, the on-line company will take your money, but the QLD or WA State OHS Regulator will not issue a White Card - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
Q. I have an RTA Red Card, does it qualify me to carry out the duties of Traffic Controller (Blue card) or Apply Traffic Control Plans (Yellow card)?
A. No. There is no overlap between any of the Traffic Control qualifications. You are only permitted to carry out the duties specific to the Card which you hold.
